Getting Started With Aesthetics

A New Career
If you have reached a point in your professional career where you are looking for a new challenge or seeking some new skills, the aesthetics industry could be the next step for you. For healthcare professionals such as doctors, dentists and nurses, a career in aesthetic medicine can open up new career opportunities whilst tapping into your existing skills. It can also be extremely satisfying and rewarding.
It can be daunting starting something new but with proper planning and training, you can overcome these worries and give yourself a successful start to your aesthetics business.
Why Aesthetics?
Many clients prefer non-surgical procedures as they are more affordable, less invasive and have faster recovery times compared to surgical procedures. Non-surgical aesthetics is a rapidly growing sector offering a diverse and exciting new career path, making now a good time for you to join the profession.
The commonality between medicine/dentistry and facial aesthetics is that you regularly perform injections several times a day. You are comfortable with the procedure and have mastered how to give injections in a way that makes your client as comfortable as possible.

Training
Once you have completed the Dermal Filler and Botulinum Toxin Foundation Course and have become comfortable performing treatments on your clients, you are then eligible for Fox Academy’s advanced courses and masterclasses. These specialised courses will enable you to enhance your skills and provide more complex treatments for your clients right the way through to full facial transformation.
How do I get started?
Maintain your registration with the relevant industry body
Medical professionals are required to have a current, active registration with a relevant industry body (NMC for nurses, GMC for doctors and GDC for dentists). Membership of such bodies will also offer you a support network and enable your prospective clients to find you on the registered medical aesthetics professionals list. Most training providers will also ask for at least three years of professional experience before entering into aesthetics.
Research the industry and environment
It is important to research the industry and market to understand what your competitors are doing and what your potential clients are looking for. Look out for new market trends and identify any gaps in the market that you can take advantage of. Attend aesthetic industry events for continued development and to network with industry colleagues.
Undertake training
Once you have completed your foundation and advanced courses in botulinum and dermal fillers, research what the in-demand treatments are and attend relevant courses to increase your treatment offering.
Fox Academy offer physical masterclasses in all aspects of facial aesthetics as well as specialist online e-learning to advance your knowledge and services.
Market yourself
The majority of your potential clients will be online and therefore it will be important to create a virtual presence by designing a website, writing blogs and developing a strong presence on social media.
Develop a business plan
If you decide to work for yourself and open your own clinic, a well-structured business plan will give you direction and enable you to attract investment to get the business started. If you already have your own medical premises, then starting a clinic is a great opportunity to boost revenue.
However, as an aesthetic practitioner you may also choose to work in an existing clinic. This might be beneficial if you are planning on working part time or don’t feel you have the business skills to market yourself to gain clients. The clinic will generally market your services and book patients in for you.
Take out insurance
To be able to practice aesthetics, you must have medical indemnity insurance, public liability insurance and building and contents insurance. Insurance companies will request training certificates for the treatments and products you wish to use. Do not assume that you are automatically insured for what you want to do.
Source your products
Once you have a defined treatment menu, you will need to plan where you source your products from. Our sister companies; Fox Pharma, Fox Clinic Wholesale and REVOLAX UK offer a full range of Aesthetic products and consumables at the most competitive prices UK wide as well as having bespoke app services that make the ordering process as simple and straightforward as possible.
